 Thursday 20 January : Yesterday (2019) Rating: 12. Musical romantic comedy. 1hr 56m

Himesh Patel stars as struggling musician Jack Malik who suddenly finds himself the only person who has ever heard of The Beatles and becomes famous after reintroducing their songs to the world.  The film also stars Lily James, Joel Fry, Ed Sheeran and Kate McKinnon. Directed by Danny Boyle, screenplay by Richard Curtis.

Wednesday 23 February : The Good Liar (2019) Rating: 15. Crime thriller. 1hr 49mins

Ian McKellen stars as an ageing career con artist who meets a wealthy widow (Helen Mirren) online and then discovers that his plan to steal her fortune has unexpected roadblocks.  Set in 2009 London, Roy Courtnay (McKellen) uses false identities to deceive people into giving him access to their finances.  His latest target is Betty McLeish (Mirren), a former history professor at Oxford University, who lost her husband a year ago and has savings in excess of £2 million. Based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Nicholas Searle, the film was directed and produced by Bill Condon, screenplay by Jeffrey Hatcher.

 Thursday 24 March : Dream Horse (2020)  Rating: PG. Sports comedy drama. 1hr 42mins

A true story of Dream Alliance, an unlikely racehorse bred by Welsh bartender Jan Vokes (Toni Collette). With very little money and no experience, Jan convinces her neighbours to chip in their earnings to help raise Dream in the hopes he can compete with the racing elites. Dream rises through the ranks with grit and determination and goes on to race in the Welsh Grand National. Also starring Damian Lewis, Sian Phillips and Nicholas Farrell. Directed by Euros Lyn, screen play by Neil McKay.

 Wednesday 20 April : Dark Waters (2019)  Rating: 12A. Drama thriller. 2hr 6mins

Based on the true story of Robert Bilott’s case against the chemical manufacturing corporation DuPont after they contaminated a town’s water supply with unregulated chemicals. Local farmer Wilbur Tennant asks Bilott to investigate a number of unexplained animal deaths in Parkersburg, West Virginia.  Tennant connects the deaths to the chemical manufacturing corporation DuPont and gives Bilott a large case of videotapes.  Starring Mark Ruffalo as Bilott, with Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins and Bill Pullman. Directed by Tod Haynes, screenplay Mario Correa.

 Thursday 26 May : Judy (2019)  Rating: 12. Biographical drama.  1hr 58mins

The film follows Judy Garland’s career during the last year of her life, when she relocated her stage career to Britain, coupled with flashbacks of her teenage years. After some initial success at the Talk of the Town in London, her efforts eventually stop making progress and start to worsen as her health deteriorates. For her portrayal of Garland, Rene Zellweger won the Academy Award for Best Actress as well as the Golden Globe Award, SAG Award, BAFTA Award and Critics’ Choice Movie Award. Directed by Rupert Goold and also featuring Jessie Buckley, Rufus Sewell and Michael Gambon.
